chore and romance reminders

Problem:
Mrs. Brown hates it when Mr. Brown forgets to take the trash to the street on Tuesday night for garbage pick-up the next morning. Mr. Brown hates that Mrs. Brown never seems to be “in the mood.” Each is waiting for the other one to change first.

Smart Solution:
Change the house first! Mrs. Brown has Smart Home Theaters install a Control4 controller in the basement, and a wireless dimmer switch in their bedroom. With some simple programming done by an expert installer, the indicator lights on the dimmer switch turn green every Tuesday night to remind Mr. Brown to take out the trash. Mr. Brown also has some speakers installed in their bedroom and has Mrs. Brown’s favorite Andrea Bochelli cd burned to the Control4 Controller’s hard drive. Now, after Mr. Brown takes out the trash, he simply turns the dimmer switch indicator lights red, the color of love, and Andrea automatically comes on over the speakers. It seems that both Mr. Brown and Mrs. Brown no longer have a problem.

monitor your teens

Problem:
Mr. and Mrs. Jones have a teenager daughter, Jill, who keeps sneaking out her window at night. Even if she has permission to go out, the Joneses often fall asleep and can’t be sure when Jill comes home.

The Smart Solution:
Mr. and Mrs. Jones have Smart Home Theaters install a Control4 controller. They also have security contacts installed in their daughter’s window, as well as on all entry doors to the home. Each night, the Jones’ simply push the Control4 wireless dimmer switch in their own bedroom twice, turning the indicator lights on the switches to green, indicating that the contacts have been armed.
If their daughter’s window is opened, the lights in her parents’ room blink on and off five times to notify them of the breach. If any of the doors in the home are opened after Jill’s curfew as passed, the dimmer switch indicator lights in the Joneses bedroom turn orange, signifying that Jill needs to be grounded.

laundry reminders

Problem:

Mrs. Smith seems to always forget to switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer. Little Johnny Smith is pretty upset when he discovers that the soccer jersey he needs for his game in 10 minutes is moldy and stinky in the washing machine still.

The Smart Solution:
Mrs. Smith has Smart Home Theaters install a Control4 controller in their home, along with wireless dimmer switches in the laundry room, the kitchen, their bedroom, and a few other rooms that Mrs. Smith tends to reside during her day. Whenever Mrs. Smith starts a new load of laundry, she pushes the dimmer switch in her laundry room twice until the indicator lights on the switch turns purple. (Purple is Mrs. Smith’s favorite color, but you could choose one of over 256 colors for your own home.) Forty-five minutes later, the nights in each of the other rooms with dimmer switches all blink five times to remind Mrs. Smith to switch the now clean load over to the dryer.  Johnny now smells sweat and clean for his soccer games!

remote office controls

Problem:
Dr. V. Neer, a busy dentist, has to be to work 20 minutes early each day to turn on the heater and get the office warmed up while he runs around turning all of the lights on. Then he reverses the process every night-losing at least 30 minutes each day he’d rather be spending with his kids. He’s also losing his voice from singing to his patients while he drills, since they have nothing else to entertain them.

Smart Solution:
Dr. V. Neer has Smart Home Theaters install flat panel TV’s in each operatory room, connected to satellite TV. He also has dimmer switches installed in each room and a programmable thermostat which wirelessly communicates with the Control4 Controller. Now, the heat turns on by itself at just the right time, and with the touch of a single button, he can now turn every light in the building on or off.
